Graduation has come around quickly this year…we visited Bolton Universities Textiles & Surfaces degree show.

As always, we were thrilled to be invited to preview the final Textiles & Surfaces degree show at the University of Bolton Class of 2024. We love seeing how creative all the work is, it is harder and harder each year for AVA to pick just one stand out winning student.

This year’s AVA winning student is Momina Waseem. Her prize is a place on our next CAD Specialist Training course and a free loan of AVA to further enhance her skillset.

We had a catch up with Momina while she was exhibiting at the recent New Designers graduate’s show, gaining us a greater insight into her final collection and what inspired this body of work.

Momina’s final collection took inspiration from the Northwestern region of Türkiye, Lznik. Celebrating patterned tiles and vessels found in local mosques, palaces, and museums. These ceramics are heavily adorned with bold patterns and motifs, which Momina used as a basis to create her collection. 

Drawing inspiration from the abundance of florals and geometric structures that form the basis of their designs, Momina created a colourful but cohesive collection of wallcoverings and fabrics that would easily find a place in today’s interior design market.

Her use of visualisations further elevated her portfolio showcasing her designs of a variety of products such as ornamental vases, wallcoverings and cushions. 

We are looking forward to working with Momina on the next online CST course and cannot wait to see how her new CAD skills will help develop her portfolio.
